Preliminary Ecological Appraisal
Green Shoots Ecology produces clear, practical Preliminary Ecological Appraisal reports for planning applications across the South East, including London, Essex and Hertfordshire.
A Preliminary Ecological Appraisal is usually the first ecological survey needed for a planning application. It helps identify ecological constraints early, so that any issues can be dealt with before they cause delays, redesigns or unexpected costs.
Our reports are written in a clear format for clients, architects, planning consultants and local planning authorities. They explain what is present on site, what the likely ecological risks are, and what practical steps may be needed to move the application forward.
Before granting planning permission, councils often require ecological information so they can assess potential impacts on habitats, protected species and designated sites. For most sites, a Preliminary Ecological Appraisal is the required starting point.
Our Preliminary Ecological Appraisals include:
- a desk study and biological records search;
- a review of nearby designated sites and relevant ecological constraints;
- a UK Habitat Classification / UKHab survey of habitats on site;
- a habitat map showing key ecological features;
- descriptions of habitats, including any invasive species such as Japanese knotweed;
- assessment of potential for protected species such as bats, reptiles, nesting birds, badgers, great crested newts and other relevant species;
- recommendations for further surveys, mitigation or enhancement where required;
